Omei Academy at the 5th World Taijiquan Championships
The 5th World Taijiquan Championships in Burgas, Bulgaria, was more than a competition for the Omei Academy team. It was the continuation of a journey built through years of steady practice, discipline, and shared experience.

Our students stepped onto the competition floor alongside athletes from around the world, including competitors from countries where Taichi and Wushu are often trained through intensive full-time programs with daily schedules far beyond what most youth athletes in the United States experience. Within that level of international competition, Omei students earned medals across multiple events, while several students also placed in the top six of highly competitive divisions.
Beyond the results themselves, what stood out most was the composure, consistency, and technical preparation our students brought to the international stage.
One moment during the trip captured the spirit of the team especially clearly.
Shortly before one performance, a sword broke during warm-up just minutes before competition. Students, parents, and coaches immediately worked together to solve the problem. One person rushed back to the hotel to retrieve a teammate’s sword, while others helped coordinate preparation so the athlete could still step onto the floor ready to perform.
In the middle of a stressful situation, the focus was not on panic. It was on supporting one another.
That moment reflected something deeper than competition.
This is the Omei team culture: steady under pressure, supportive of one another, and built through long-term commitment rather than short-term moments.
We are proud not only of the performances, but of the training culture behind them. The results in Bulgaria reflected years of focused instruction, consistent effort from students, and the dedication of coaches and families working together over time.
As the team returns home, our students bring back more than medals or competition memories. They return with stronger friendships, greater confidence, and a deeper understanding of what can be achieved through discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.
